Alternative Fairs

The calendar is dotted with international art fairs in which galleries represent artists. Here are a few alternative fairs which offer early-career artists or artist-led spaces/collectives the ability to independently sell their work and network. Know of something not listed here? Let me know.

The Maverick Expo - London (UK), Paris (FR)

A five day event featuring the work of emerging artists, curators and galleries. The aim is to present an alternative to the bigger, more established commercial fairs - and a far more affordable opportunity to the talented artists, curators and galleries that are producing and exhibiting wonderful works of art but can't afford the Frieze art fair, FIAC or Art Basel.

The Other Art Fair - London, Bristol (UK), Sydney (AUS)

Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair is the UK's leading artist fair to discover and buy art directly from the very best emerging artistic talent. With bi-annual fairs strongly established in London, The Other Art Fair has grown both in the UK and abroad with editions now in Bristol and Sydney.

Sluice__ - London (UK), New York (USA)

Sluice__ is an art initiative run by an artist, a curator and an educationalist. Sluice__ was formed as a provocation and foregrounds criticality as a central concern. Sluice__ strategically adopts structures in order to showcase artist, curator and emergent discourse, projects and galleries.

stARTup Art Fair - Los Angeles, New York, Chicago (USA)

The art world is changing, and many artists are finding themselves working outside of the traditional gallery system. The core mission of stARTup Art Fair is to provide a professional exhibition venue for independent artists -- artists who do not have a formal agreement with a commercial gallery.
