Ruth Thomas

Ruth Thomas (Combined Studies Art and Design) is an Australian student studying in Scotland who uses the different landscapes of both of these countries as inspiration for her work. Her most recent work is based on studies of the intertidal shores near Edinburgh. She writes of her practice:

I am captivated by the myriad of lines, patterns and formations found in the natural world but am increasingly concerned about the human impact on our environment and the threat to our oceans. I seek to explore this tension between human existence and sustainability in my drawings, printmaking, textiles and artists books.

As I am currently based in Edinburgh and degree show season is upon us, in anticipation of the Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show 2014, I will feature the work of one artist per day through June 1, the last day of the exhibition, in addition to my usual posts.
