The Fire

The Fire

I was devastated to see the news of the fire at the Glasgow School of Art this past Friday. The loss of the school's precious library and severe damage to the building and student work is a tragedy in so many ways. I was fortunate enough to stop in for a visit a few months ago, and I'm glad I was able to see it--it's a stunning building that holds such a dear and significant place in history and for students.

It's so tough to see some of the photos that have been circulating in the media, but it's a testament to the vitality and importance of this building that there has been an outpouring of support and interested expressed to restore it. I can't even fathom the immense disappointment, frustration, and sadness that students, alumni and faculty must be feeling. With the degree show coming up in early June, and much work lost in the blaze, things seem rather up in the air.

I can only hope for a swift and smooth move forward, which I am sure the school will make in due course, but in the meantime, my thoughts are with everyone to whom this school and this national landmark means so much--and by that, of course, I mean Scotland.
