Dan Roach

Like cellular clusters or sea glass washed about in a tide, Dan Roach's abstract shapes spread and regroup, as if moving from one part of the canvas to another, or looking as if they are about to break out of it altogether. In An Ideal Doubt the hexagons appear as if they have advanced to some new stage of development, growing and preparing to break open, disperse, or both. Roach's paintings are rooted firmly in the abstract painting tradition, but the artist evokes a particularly rich atmosphere around his spectral shapes.
