Florian & Michael Quistrebert: Paintings
The paintings of brothers Florian and Michael Quistrebert hone in on the correlations between geometry, pattern, addition and negation. The rich surfaces are scraped and smeared, occasionally splattered, revealing underlayers of color and texture while adding new patterns. I particular like the negation of black dye from fabric using bleach, or beer splashed onto bronze pigment.
An exhibition of their work is currently on through 22 March at Dundee Contemporary Art, Scotland and in 2014 they were nominated for the Prix Marcel Duchamp. They split their time between Paris and Amsterdam. More information and images of work, including some stunning video pieces, can be found at quistrebert.com.
