Andrew Indelicato's Circle Paintings
In a nod to midcentury American painters like Kenneth Noland or Frank Stella who shaped the canvas frame around the geometric shapes they painted, Andrew Indelicato tries out a perfectly round surface, but one onto which the geometric shapes and lines are piled onto as opposed to the shapes dictating the shape of the surface. The shapes and lines are contained within the boundaries of the canvas, but only just; they might as well be swirling around inside a glass globe if it weren't for the utter flatness of the layers.
Indelicato earns an MFA from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia this year. His work will be included in a Lamar Dodd MFA exit exhibition in New York City, opening May 28, at Rogue Space Chelsea.
