Melissa Brown's multimedia works and animation playfully manipulate perception. Bright, almost manic compositions are painted onto dyed raw canvas, hazily expressing both physical and emotional landscapes. I particularly like the recent Casino Trip animation, which draws on a familiar feeling of the "go-go-go" mentality of a long road trip with a much-anticipated destination, in addition to the feeling associated with the gamble, the usually endless search for the winning lottery number.

Brown showed at Essex Flowers, New York earlier this year, and is part of a group exhibition at MASS Gallery in Austin, TX this month. More information and work can be found at melissabrown.tv.
